Following the outstanding achievements of 2006 which saw Fiji qualify for the 2008 World Cup which included heavy involvement from Australian Fijian players and staff 2007 was going to be a hard act to follow. Season 2007 saw the Australian Fijians forge out our most successful year to date both on and off the field. These achievements have been listed below:
Winner of the Orara Valley Sevens Plate Competition.
Winner of the VB St Mary’s Sevens defeating NRL side Wests Tigers in the Final.
Defeated Cook Islands in an AFRL scheduled match.
No less than 20 players were successful in gaining selection to the Fijian National team coached and trained by AFRL coach (Arthur Kitinas) and trainer (Steve Driscoll) in three test matches played throughout the year.
Seven players of Fijian heritage playing regularly in the NRL competition.
Saw us forge partnerships with Errea (pictured below) and Skins as well as a club affilliation with Moore Park Broncos Junior Rugby League club in which our secretary Phil Browne is now a board member.
Such success will give us great motivation to achieve higher honours in season 2008 both on and off the field. We believe that more success will help us lead to the forming of new relationships and partnerships such as the one reached with Errea.
