January 30, 2011 – Akuila Uate wins Petero Civoniceva Medal

Newcastle Knights flyer Akuila Uate has taken the out the Petero Civoniceva Medal for the year 2010 held at the NSW Leagues Club last night. In the same year that saw Uate win the 2010 Dally M winger of the year award the boy from Namatikula held off 2009 Dally M award and PC Medal winner in Parramatta’s Jarryd Hayne and fellow Namatikula native in West’s Tigers Lote Tuqiri.

Fellow Knights teammate Wes Naiqama was on hand to collect the award for Uate who was unable to attend the event with the recent arrival of his new child.

AFRL Vice-Chairman Manoa Thompson was also the inaugural inductee into the AFRL Hall of Fame and the AFRL would like to congratulate him on this great achievement as well as thanking him for his acceptance speech and performance which will go down as one of the greatest and funniest moments in the Petero Civoniceva Medal night history.

The AFRL also used the event to announce its new two year major sponsorship with Fiji Me as well as a new shorts sponsorship deal with Winners World Travel and a two year extension with apparel partner KooGa and accommodation partner The Uprising Beach Resort.

The AFRL would like to thank all who attended the event including all its sponsors and corporate partners as well as AFRL patron Petero Civoniceva and all the NRL players in particular whose presence and support with the AFRL has helped stimulate unbelievable growth in all areas within our organization.
