16 August 08

Sydney Roosters Harold Matthews Coach Joel Greig will take charge of the AFRL U/16’s Development Cup Team to play at Western Weekender Stadium on October 11.

He will take over from Scott Murray who was originally appointed to the job but due to structural changes at the Sydney Roosters that saw Adrian Lam vacate the NYC  job and move into his new role as Technical Coach at the club. This then saw Murray elevated as NYC Coach.

The AFRL would like to congratulate Scott Murray on his appointment, who will remain with the AFRL in a coaching capacity assisting where possible with the U/16’s and the AFRL senior side in the future.

“Scott’s replacement Joel Greig was highly recommended by Scott to the AFRL and Greig’s appointment was also given the tick of approval from AFRL Head Coach Artie Kitinas,” said AFRL Board member Steve Driscoll. “I have worked with Joel at the Roosters and his experience working with kids in that U/16 age bracket will be invaluable. Joel is a great guy and we are really happy he is on board with us.”

Coach Joel Greig said on his appointment “I am really looking forward to working with these Fijian boys and everyone else at the AFRL. We always have lots of Polynesian kids at the Roosters and they are great to work with. This will be no different. This will be a great experience for me and hopefully these kids will take something away from this.”

The AFRL will hold there first player meeting/training session for the U/16’s at Booralee Park, Botany at 9am on Saturday September 27 with the squad to be announced at a function on October 4 the following week.
