AFRL Staff Contribute to NSWRL Pacific Camp at Narrabeen

14 July 2008

AFRL staff and board members played their part in the inaugural Pacific Camp staged at Narrabeen Sports Academy that went all week from Monday July 6 to Friday July 11.

AFRL chairman James Pickering joined Sia Soliola and Tevita Folau (Sydney Roosters) on the Wednesday for one of the many sessions the kids completed over the week. On the Friday AFRL Board Member and Conditioner Steve Driscoll conducted a speed and agility session followed by a drug and alcohol talk from AFRL Team manager Tommy Simpson (pictured below).

The camp was organised by NSWRL Pacific Coaching and Development Officer David Lakisa for a selected group of kids from all over NSW from Pacific backgrounds. He was assisted during the week by former Melbourne Storm star Matt Rua.

The AFRL would like to congratulate David Lakisa and the NSWRL on what was a great initiative shown from them and on what the AFRL believes is exactly what is needed in helping develop Pacific rugby league talent here in Australia.

Chairman James Pickering said “This is the exact sort of thing these island kids need here in Australia and we are very grateful that we were part of the first camp and hopefully apart of many of these in the future. Congrats must go to Dave, Matt, Tevita and all those from the NSWRL who put this camp together.”
