The Australian Fijian Rugby League (AFRL) today announced its ongoing commitment from Petero Civonaceva as Patron of the AFRL.
Petero declared, he was "truly humbled to be Patron of AFRL, as a Fijian, I hope I can be a good example to all other young and talented Fijians both in Australia and at home that hard work and discipline pays."
As Patron and face of the AFRL, Petero strengthens his ties with the organization who have also named their annual awards night as the Petero Civonaceva Medal Night.
James Pickering, Chairman of the AFRL Board said in a statement today "We are very honoured and privileged to be associated with someone with such high standards which is a reflection on his standing in the Rugby League community. It’s a big thing not just for us and but for all Fijian people. I have known him since 1998 when he first started coming through with the Broncos and seen him grow and develop remarkably."
Sponsorship manager for AFRL, Steven Driscoll believes that Petero’s appointment will not only lift the profile of AFRL but will also have a huge impact on their current players. "Petero’s involvement will help increase participation levels of Fijian's playing Rugby League here in Australia. Having one of Australia's most capped players of all time as AFRL patron will help us attract support from potential sponsors also which will in turn enable us to provide more for our players."
AFRL’s main objective is to promote the game within Fijian community as well as helping to provide pathways and opportunities in rugby league for Fijian’s both here in Australia and abroad.
