Kali Meehan to Fight for WBA World Heavyweight Title against Nikolai Valuev as Ruslan Chagaev withdraws from fight with hepatitis.

FRL Membership Ambassador Kali Meehan will fight Russian giant Nicolai Valuev this Sunday morning (AEST) for the WBA Heavyweight Title of the World. Meehan who was listed to fight on the under card of the Valuev/Chagaev fight will finally get his shot at the World Title after he was robbed two years ago against Lamon Brewster.

Meehan’s management team of Callum Morrison and George Christodolou informed AFRL marketing manager Steve Driscoll this morning of the news and the pair will fly out for Finland tonight.

Morrison said “Don King is flying in to Finland tonight to stitch up the deal for Kali’s purse from the fight and Kali has said that it has become a bit of a media circus around him now that he will definitely be fighting Valuev. He has spent the past two weeks sparring fellow heavyweight David Hay in Cyprus before he fights Vladimir Klitschko and Kali was also sparring Solomon Haumono and John Hopoate regularly before he flew out of Australia so his preparation has been as good as it gets.”

The AFRL board wants the entire Fijian community here in Australia to rally behind Meehan and any show of support they have for him they should send to his email address kcheckmate@hotmail.com . AFRL Chairman James Pickering will send Kali an email on behalf of the AFRL Board tonight and the AFRL hope it will give him strength and help him bring back the title he should have won against Lamon Brewster last time he fought for the title.

The AFRL on behalf of the Fijian community here in Australia wishes Kali Meehan all the best on May 30 in Finland.
