AFRL Chairman James Pickering said "Scott is a former NRL player who is making a real name for himself as an up and coming coach. He has been in NRL coaching systems both at the Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs where he worked under Arthur for a few years. His current Roosters SG Ball team won the Grand Final last week and his school side Matraville Sports High are the current Arrive Alive Cup Champions. Scott has extensive experience working with Pacific Islander kids and was instrumental in having Pacific Island Liaison Officers employed at the school. Our U/16’s will benefit greatly from playing under him."
Scott Murray said "I’m looking forward to working with these young Fijian kids and the tournament itself looks like being a real hit with all the different nations taking part. I am also looking forward to working with Arthur again and with the senior team on the tour to Great Britain also. The whole thing is very exciting and will be a great experience for myself and all involved."
Head Coach Arthur Kitinas introduced Scott to the players at the Flight Centre announcement on Wednesday along with the rest of his staff that has a wealth of experience working in the NRL. These include Manager - Tommy Simpson (Rabbitohs), Sports Trainer – Darren Jones (Roosters) and Physio – Mark Beaven (former Rabbitohs, NSW Origin and Australian Kangaroos).
The AFRL is hopeful that through Scott’s involvement with them that they can form a relationship with Matraville Sports High that will involve bringing exceptional Fijian kids into Matraville’s Talented Students Program (TSP) from both here in Australia and from Fiji.
